Calendis is a startup created in Perl about 3 years ago. It’s a platform where you, as an end user, can make appointments for various services, like hair salons, dentists office, gyms etc. As a business you can be featured in a marketplace where users can find you, make appointments and become your customers. Businesses can also use Calendis as a tool to manage employees, customers, services, sales reports and even to send newsletters or email and SMS reminders.
When it comes to Perl startups there aren’t that many examples to go around, so it’s nice to see one take off the ground so well. They currently have 15.000 end users and almost 100 businesses on the platform. Right now it’s only available in Romania, in two cities, Cluj Napoca, a strong IT center in the heart of Transylvania and in the capital, Bucharest.
The online booking solution is comprised of 3 web platforms and a mobile one. The web platforms are: the admin, business and client. The last two cover businesses that are featured in the Calendis marketplace and the service accessible for clients that want to make an appointment.
This startup was also the focus of a presentation at last year's YAPC::EU. As a service it covers an untapped market and has a lot of potential for expansion and growth. You can find more about them by checking out their BuiltinPerl profile or by reading this extensive piece about them (in English) from their current Scrum Master and Team Lead, Mihai Pop. It covers a lot of the technical aspects of Calendis, it might be worth a few minutes of your time.Tweet
